14,000 tonnes of fuel for Arctic military forces were stolen in Novosibirsk


NOVOSIBIRSK, May 14. / TASS /. Novosibirsk department of the FSB in cooperation with the Regional Commander of the Ministry of Internal Affairs revealed the fraud led by two deputy directors of the fuel storage facility.

A billion rubles ($20,000,000) theft of fuel

The suspects have stolen 1 billion rubles ($20,000,000) worth of diesel which was intended for the Russian military in the Arctic, said the press service of the government.

“Using their authority, deputy directors forged documents of the firm’s economic activities and resold more than 14,000 tonnes of fuel to third parties. The fuel was meant to supply the armed forces of the Russian Federation, in particular, the Arctic groups” – a statement says.

Law enforcement agencies did not specify which storage facility the incident took place at. The report says that the facility does not have the means to cover the financial loss to the fuel owner – the company “Lukoil-Rezervnefteprodukt”.

Suspects face 10 years in prison

A criminal case was filed against two members of higher management of the storage facility. Part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code (“Fraud committed in a large amount”) is incriminated. The article provides imprisonment for up to 10 years.

The suspects were arrested.
