Rogozin: Building new battle ships is frozen because of Ukraine

Building new ships for Russian Navy is “frosen” due to breach of contract by Ukraine for gas turbine engines supply, told Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin to RIA “Novosti”.

“Speaking of weapons and military equipment from Ukraine, we are currently to replace 186 items, first of all this gas turbine engines the production of which was historically located in Ukraine. Because of this we can not build new surface ships for our Navy,”- said Rogozin.

As a result of anti-Russian sanctions Russia is missing 640 items from the European Union and NATO.

“Basically, we are talking about optics and electronics. Import replacing schedule is also tight here,”- said Rogozin.

Earlier Rogozin said that Russia plans replace 80% of positions of import from EU and NATO by 2018.
