The owner of the Turkish seiner, approaching of which has caused a Russian ship to open fire in the Aegean Sea, told about the circumstances of the incident. According to him, the crew took the Russian destroyer for a NATO ship.

The owner of the Turkish seiner (a fishing boat) has told to CNN Turk that at the time of the incident in the Aegean Turkish the ship was at a distance of 2 kilometres from the Russian ship.

“We were on our route. We did not even know that was a Russian ship. We thought that was a ship of NATO. Around 8:30 we passed it by. We did not hear the shots,” – quotes Hurriyet the ship’s captain Muzaffar.

At the same time the edition Haberturk said that Turkish Foreign Minister stated that Ankara will speak about the incident with the Russian ship in the Aegean Sea after the fishermen of the Turkish vessel are interviewed.

The incident with the Russian patrol ship “Smetlivy” and Turkish seiner took place in the morning of December 13th. It was stated in the report of the Ministry of Defense that the Turkish vessel approached the Russian ship at a distance of less than 1 km, and the crew of the Turkish ship did not respond neither to radio contact, nor to visual signals. When the Turkish vessel approached the Russian ship at a distance of less than 600 meters, “Smetlivy” fired warning shots, said in the Ministry of Defence’s report.

In connection with the incident, the military attaché of the Turkish Embassy was called to the Ministry of Defence of Russia, ​​where he met with the deputy head of the Russian Defense Ministry. According to the agency, the Russian diplomat has warned of the possible consequences of actions of Ankara.
