Bild: Russia spends 79 million euros a month to pay salaries and pensions in Donbass

Each month Russia spends about 79 million euros to pay salaries and pensions to residents of Donbass in order to support the existence of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR), says the German newspaper Bild.

According to the newspaper, after Kiev stopped payments in July 2014, and all the way up to mid-spring 2015, the separatists were actually unable to provide payrolls and pensions to residents of the occupied regions.

So, in April last year government employees and pensioners started receiving regular payments in rubles, in a shortened amount though.

Bild attributes this to the beginning of the work of Russia’s so-called “interdepartmental commission for humanitarian support to affected areas in southeastern Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine”.
