Media: Russian army is fighting in Syria

On Saturday, February 13, the German media Spiegel Online, and activists of the international investigative group Conflict Intelligence Team (CIT) published new evidence of the participation of the Russian army in a ground operation in northern Syria.

As noted in the investigation of the CIT, in mid-January the Syrian government forces have virtually pushed the armed opposition groups out of Jebel Turkmen (“Turkmen mountains”) bordering with Turkey – the area where the Turkish Air Force shot down a Russian Su-24 bomber.

Activists found some photos and videos on the Internet, which have time and place of the shooting witnessing that the attack of Assad’s troops in the north of Syria was performed with the participation of Russian multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) “Grad” and “Smerch”, and howitzers “MSTA-B”. Military personnel that was seen in these photos and videos was also Russian. According to the investigation, it can be seen from the unique cockades on hats, that can not be found on the uniform of soldiers of the Syrian government army.

On February 3, Russian news agencies have confirmed reports of the death of a Russian military adviser in Syria that happened 2 days prior to that. As reported by the Ministry of Defence, he was posthumously awarded.
