All 30 miners died in a mine in Komi Republic


All miners who were blocked in a mine in the Komi Republic (Russia) have died, said a source in the regional emergencies department to FlashNord agency on Sunday night.

“There is no contact with them, they died,” – said the source.

According to the Ministry of Emergencies, a collapse of rocks at the mine “Severnaya” (“Northern” – RRT) in Vorkuta at the depth of 748 meters has happened on Thursday at 2:22pm (Moscow time). There were 110 people in total in the mine at the time of the accident, 80 of them were rescued to the surface, 4 died. The fate of 26 people remained unknown. The search-and-rescue operation was complicated because of 3 severe gobs, and heavy smoke. In total, 560 people and 100 pieces of machinery were involved in the operation.
