Polish Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz said that the crash of the aircraft of the President Lech Kaczynski near Smolensk was a terrorist attack.

“Terrorism is currently used against Western nations as a tool to provoke the flow of migration in order to destabilize the European continent. It is worth remembering that Poland was the first victim of terrorism in the 30s. After the Smolensk catastrophe, we can say that Poland was the first victim of terrorism in the modern conflict that is currently played out before our eyes,” – he said in Torun during the conference “Modern Politics: conflicts and terrorism”.

He directly links the crash with the murders of Poles in Katyn.

“Only independent Poland could loudly declare Katyn genocide. Well, in 2009 it seemed like it was. However, we found that an attempt to raise the issue caused a reaction that was not expected by anybody in the world. This reaction brought the death of the entire Polish elite. I mean the death of the Polish delegation at Smolensk,” – he said.

“Without a doubt, the goal of what happened near Smolensk was depriving the Polish leadership, which was leading us to independence,” – Macierewicz said.

According to him, the plane crash was the first link in the chain of further events – the attack of the Russian Federation on Ukraine, the occupation of the industrial Donbas, the wreck of a passenger liner of Malaysian Airlines, the intervention in the war in Syria.

On February 4, Macierewicz signed documents on the resumption of the investigation of the Smolensk disaster, which occurred on April 10, 2010.

The plane of the Polish president, which was carrying 96 people, including the head of state Lech Kaczynski himself, crashed during landing at the airfield Smolensk-North in heavy fog and low visibility. All passengers and crew members died.

Kaczynski was heading to Russia for ceremonies to mark the 70th anniversary of the massacre of Polish officers in the Katyn Forest.
