The price of the stadium Piter Arena that is being built in St. Petersburg has exceeded 1 billion dollars. It was reported by TASS with reference to the chairman of of the Federation Council’s committee on the 2018 World Cup Vadim Tyulpanov.

“Financially, the costs are increasing. The dollar is growing, so there are additional spendings. The price of the stadium was under a billion dollars. Now it is probably higher. But after the stadium is ready, it will be the best in Russia. There is no such arena in the world. It is the only stadium at this latitude with the roll-out field and closing roof,” – said Tyulpanov.

On February 2, the main contractor sent an official appeal to the Construction Committee of St. Petersburg on the increase of the construction cost by 435 million rubles (approx. $6.3 million – RRT).

The completion of the stadium was planned for May 2016. The stadium will be available for up to 68 thousand people for sporting events, and up to 80 thousand for entertainment. In 2017 it is supposed to take the matches of the Confederations Cup, and a year later – the World Cup.

The work began in 2007. The delivery date and the cost of Piter Arena was repeatedly revised, originally it was planned to start operating in 2009, and its value at the time amounted to 6.7 billion rubles (approx. $200 million at the rate of that time).
