Mutko: German media will publish data about Russia “buying” the World Cup 2018

On April 7-8, German media will publish an article about Russia illegally obtaining the right to host the World Cup 2018. This was told by the Russian Minister of Sport Vitaly Mutko.

“We have information that on April 7 and 8 there will be an article in German media with the meaning “Russians bought the championship”. We will respond to this – we will start an extensive campaign. We will use the FIFA Congress in Mexico,” – Mutko said.

According to the Minister of Sport, the organizing committee was checked many times for compliance with all requirements and regulations. Russia is fully confident that there can be no violations. “We can fear only of slander, when someone says that we are involved in something. We fear that the most, that will have to make excuses,” – he added.

Elections of the host countries of the World Cups 2018 and 2022 were held on December 2, 2010. Members of the FIFA Executive Committee participated in the vote. The right for the World Championship 2018 was claimed by Russia, England, a joint bid of Spain and Portugal, as well as Belgium and the Netherlands. As a result, the World Cup 2018 was got by Russia, that received 13 votes in the decisive second round, while Spain with Portugal got 7, and Belgium with Netherlands – only 2. The bid of England was eliminated after the first round.
