Azerbaijan attacks Armenia with kamikaze drones (video)

In the area of hostilities that resumed last week in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, a drone was spotted, which is with great probability could have been built in Israel.

An Associated Press correspondent shot a video, on which a kamikaze drone belonging to the Azerbaijani Air Force, with the distinctive shape of the wings and nose, similar to the model “Harop” of the Israeli Aerospace Industries, attacked Armenian positions. The attack killed seven Armenian soldiers.

If these reports are confirmed, it would be the first documented case of the use of such a drone in combat.

IAI Harop is a reconnaissance and strike drone that was designed in 2001-2005. Its special feature is that being radio-controlled originally, after detecting a target it enters the homing mode, becoming a flying bomb. This makes it an ideal weapon against enemy’s air defenses.

Thanks to its small size it easily evades missiles, and it’s very difficult for radar systems to detect it.

There is still no accurate data on how many countries use Harop drones, but according to official data it was sold to India and Azerbaijan.
