Sanctions against Russia will be lifted only after implementing Minsk Protocol

Leaders of the United States, France, Germany, Great Britain and Italy expressed their “nonacceptance of the Russian occupation and the attempts of annexation of the Crimea”.

Western sanctions will be lifted only after the full implementation of the Minsk Protocol.

This is said in the statement the White House after the meeting of the US President Barack Obama, President of France Francois Hollande, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Prime Minister of Italy Matteo Renzi.

“Regarding Ukraine, the leaders reiterated their rejection of the Russian occupation and the attempt of annexation of Crimea. It was agreed that full implementation of the Minsk Protocol is crucial. The leaders reiterated that sanctions against Russia will be lifted only after the Minsk Protocol is fully implemented,” – said in the statement.

Economic sanctions against Russia were imposed by the United States, the European Union, and some other countries in the spring of 2014, after the annexation of the Crimea, and the outbreak of hostilities in Donbas. Sanctions packages were expanded and tightened several times.
