Russia’s National Guard needs “urban machine guns”


Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced a tender for development of a machine gun intended to be used by special forces in urban areas.

According to Gazeta.Ru, it will use standard Kalashnkov 5.45 mm cartridges.

New weapons should be developed based on a machine gun “Tokar-2”, and will used by the newly formed National Guard “to destroy manpower and defeat fire weapons during special operations in urban areas and indoors, as well as create a high density of fire, supported by assault groups or gunner’s actions as part of a group for give it more firepower.”

The cost of the tender is 25 million rubles (approx. $375,000 – RRT).
