USA will deploy marines in Bulgaria

In 2017, the USA plans to increase the number of troops stationed on the territory of Bulgaria. This was stated by the US Ambassador to Sofia Eric Rubin.

“Starting from next year, we expect a significant increase in not only joint military exercises and training with Bulgaria, but also the number of troops stationed in the country,” the ambassador said, also adding that it is also planned to place tactical units of US Navy SEALs in the Black Sea region.

He emphasized the success of the series of joint exercises between Bulgaria, the US and NATO, and said that they are of exceptional importance to the security of the Black Sea region.

The Ambassador noted that the US will continue to provide full support to Bulgaria in the improvement of military equipment and technology.

At the end of 2015 Bulgaria asked for NATO‘s help in protecting the country’s airspace, as the North Atlantic Alliance already does in Baltic states.
