Su-27 crashed near Moscow, pilot killed


Su-27 crashed this morning in the Moscow region, the pilot was killed.

The aircraft took part in demonstrations to mark the opening of the monument to aviators in Ashukino. According to preliminary data, the cause of the disaster was hardware failure. According to the Defense Ministry, the pilot averted the plane from residential buildings, but did not manage to eject.

Burned parts of the Su-27 are scattered over a wide area: engine, hull and cabin fragments. The surrounding trees are broken. Firefighters continue to extinguish the fire.

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that the Su-27 of Russian Air Force crashed while returning to the base airfield. The death of the pilot was alo confirmed.

“On June 9 at 10:25 MSK, while returning to the base airfield in the Moscow region after the scheduled flight, a Su-27 airplane of Russian Air Force has crashed. The pilot was killed. The flight was carried out without ammunition,” the press-service said.

They added that there is no damage on the ground, the Ministry of Defence Commission is working at the crash site.

As it was noted in the Defense Ministry, the pilot did everything possible to take the aircraft away from the settlement.

“The pilot of the Su-27 took all possible steps to move the aircraft away from the settlement. He didn’t have time to eject,” the ministry informed.
