Roskomnadzor blocked itself after it banned COMODO

Web resources of the manufacturer of anti-virus software Comodo were blocked by Roskomnadzor (Russia’s Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies, and Mass Communications), said Roskomsvoboda project.

Among other things, the company develops a free anti-virus and firewall, and is one of the world’s largest suppliers of SSL certificates.

The reason for the blocking was a decision of the Oktyabrsky district court of the city of Stavropol in 2013. Also, about 1,500 links were included into the Registry of Banned Websites. This gives grounds to believe that the resources of the company got in there by mistake, as a result of some kind of large-scale discharge, since it is unlikely that 1,500 addresses were listed in a single court decision.

The paradox is that Roskomnadzor uses certificates issued by Comodo, including on the web site of the Registry of Banned Websites. So, the website became unavailable.

Update: the website was available if accessed through http://, not https://.

Update2: after the issue became widely known, Comodo was removed from the Registry of Banned Websites.
