Erdogan: Turkey supports territorial integrity of Ukraine


Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan assured President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko that Turkey didn’t change its position on supporting the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.

This was discussed during a telephone conversation between the presidents on Saturday, August 20, said the press service of Poroshenko.

Erdogan also said that the Republic of Turkey does not recognize the occupation of the Crimea, and will continue to fully support the Crimean Tatars.

“In the context of the military coup attempt, that took place in Turkey at the night from July 15 to July 16, the head of Ukraine reiterated the support of the legitimately elected president, and the Government of the Republic of Turkey,” said in a statement.

The parties also expressed mutual interest in continuing to put all efforts in order to deepen strategic partnership between the two countries. The two leaders also discussed the development of cooperation in the energy sector.

Poroshenko expressed his condolences to his Turkish counterpart about the recent deadly terrorist attacks in the east of Turkey.
