Iran accused Russia of “bragging” about using Iranian air base

Russia acted inconsiderately when trumpeted to the whole world that it uses an Iranian air base for operations in Syria.

Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan accused Russia of “immodesty” and “bravado” after Moscow spread information about the use of an air base in Iran for the purpose of bombing Syria.

“Russians, of course, want to demonstrate that they are a “superpower”, that they are an influential state, that they play an active role in security issues in the region, and in the world. Regarding the news about the use of Iranian base, there is some boasting and inconsiderate behavior,” said the Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan in an interview with Iranian television in the evening on Sunday, August 22.

At the same time, Dehghan stressed that Tehran will continue to cooperate with Moscow and Damascus.

“Russia decided to transfer additional aircraft, and improve the speed and accuracy of its operations in Syria. Therefore, they needed refuel in an area that is closer to the area of operation. That’s why they used the base in Hamadan, but we definitely did not give the base away to them,” said the head of the Iranian Ministry of Defence.

Moscow announced the use of Iranian base in Hamadan last week. Both Iran and Russia are key supporters of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, but Iran tries not to advertise its role in the Syrian conflict too much.
