Turkey launched ground military operation in Syria

Turkish troops, together with the international coalition, started a ground operation, aimed at liberation of the Jarablus city in northern Syria from militants of the ISIS.

This was reported by Turkish media Hurriyet.

“The goals of the military operation of Turkish Armed Forces in the north of Syria are securing the state border, supporting the forces of the international coalition in the framework of countering terrorist organization ISIS, and supporting Syria‘s territorial integrity,” said a military source.

The operation involves F-16 fighters of Turkish Air Force. Aircraft have already destroyed 11 of the 12 identified targets of militants. As Hurriyet notes, this is the first time Turkish F-16s strike since they hit a Russian Su-24 in November last year.

In addition to that, tanks hit more than 70 targets on positions of the ISIS.

The Turkish side informed Russia about its actions. According to the Minister of Interior of Turkey Efkan Ala, the ground operation will continue until all the threats from terrorists are eliminated.
