Piter Arena will be completed at expense of schools and hospitals

Building of the stadium on Krestovsky island in St. Petersburg will be funded by cutting expenses for other social facilities, including schools, hospitals, and kindergartens.

As stated in the decision of the St. Petersburg government, financing of the construction of the stadium will be increased by 2.8 billion rubles (approx. $43 million – RRT). The budget for building of 30 social facilities, including 7 kindergartens, 6 schools, and a clinic, will be reduced by the same amount.

  • The total construction cost of the stadium on Krestovsky island exceeds 40 billion rubles (approx. $615 million with current exchange rate, and more than $1 billion with the exchange rate back in 2013 and earlier – RRT). Construction started in 2007, its estimate increased several times.
  • In July 2016 the St. Petersburg government fired the main contractor Izhtransstroy-SPB, and accused them of low pace and poor quality of work. New contractor is the company “Metrostroy”.
