European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) voted in favor of adding Georgia to the list of countries that have visa-free regime with the EU.
44 members of the Committee voted for granting Georgia visa-free regime with the EU, and 5 voted against.
Committee members also supported the decision to hold negotiations between Georgia and the EU Council and the Commission prior to the final approval of the EU legislative proposal.
It was noted that the Committee on Civil Liberties and Internal Affairs plays a major role in decisions on visa-free regime in the European Parliament.
Now, the decision of the Committee must be approved at the plenary session of the European Parliament, and, finally, by the EU Council.
Earlier today, the speaker on the Ukrainian question in the European Parliament, MEP Maria Gabriel called on to approve the proposal of putting Ukraine in the list of countries that have visa-free regime with the EU.
