Russia banned importing fruits and vegetables from Egypt

According to Interfax, Russia bans supplies of fruits and vegetables from Egypt starting from September 22.

“Starting from September 22, temporary restrictions on import of fruits and vegetables from Egypt are introduced. In particular, the supplies of citrus fruit, tomatoes, potatoes, and other products are affected,” said the deputy head of the Rosselkhoznadzor Yulia Shvabauskene.

According to her, the ban was introduced due to lack of effective work of the sanitary system in Egypt. During this year, Rosselkhoznadzor (Russia’s agriculture controlling service – RRT) repeatedly detected quarantine organisms and substances in Egyptian products.

The Service has notified representatives of the Embassy of Egypt about its decision.

The embargo will be in effect until the Russian-Egyptian meeting at the expert level is held.

Before introducing the ban, Egypt was the largest supplier of agricultural products to the Russian market.
