Belarus banned broadcasting TV channel Russia 24 in public places

A local journalist complained that the channel was broadcast at a gas station.

According to Belarusian legislation, broadcasting of Russian TV channel Russia 24 was banned in public places. In addition, the channel is not in the list of foreign channels, authorized for distribution in Belarus.

“Showing it anywhere except citizens’ private residences will inevitably entail legal consequences,” said in the Ministry of Information.

Such a decision was made by Belarus authorities after journalist Gleb Labadzenka complained that one of the gas stations was broadcasting Russia 24 TV channel on their TV. The staff refused to turn it down, referring to an order of the manager to broadcast this particular channel. In response, the journalist appealed to the Ministry of Information and Ministry of Communications.
