Before the end of the first quarter of 2017, FSB will develop a punishment system for public workers for using messengers WhatsApp, Viber, and Telegram for work communications.

The issue of communication between state officials was discussed on September 28 at a meeting in the Presidential Administration of Russia during considering the roadmap “Internet+Sovereignty.”

“Several times the Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev raised the issue of prohibition the use of uncertified applications by officials for discussing work-related matters. As a result, a document on ‘The introduction of the responsibility of government officials and public workers for using uncertified means of communication’ has been included in the roadmap,” Izvestia quotes the head of the working group “Internet+Sovereignty”, Ilya Massukh.

Russian officials could face disciplinary actions (up to dismissal) for the use of applications such as WhatsApp, Viber, and Telegram.
