Defense Ministry threatened to shoot down any unidentified object in Syria

Any missile or air strikes on the territory controlled by the Syrian government impose a direct threat to Russian servicemen.

This was stated on Thursday, October 6, by the Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov, reports RIA Novosti.

According to him, after the events with the strikes, mistakenly conducted on the Syrian military in Deir ez-Zor on September 17, Russia has taken all necessary measures to avoid such attacks against its military.

“The range of systems S-400 and S-300, that cover the base in Syrian Tartus and Khmeimim, may come as a surprise to any unidentified objects,” said Konashenkov.

He stressed that the crews of air defense systems will not have time to find out who the attacking missiles belong to, and what is their actual flight program.

Earlier, on September 29, Reuters reported that the administration of Barack Obama was working on the matter of possible expansion of assistance to the Syrian opposition, as the advance on Aleppo was continuing. It was noted in the article, that the scenario with the air strikes was also considered, but it was believed highly unreasonable due to possible losses among Russian military.
