Poland is interested in Belarus getting closer to EU


Official Warsaw is interested in Belarus getting closer to the European Union, it is important to create an alternative to cooperation with Russia.

It was stated by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Witold Waszczykowski in an interview with Gazeta Polska Codziennie.

The politician said that his government considers Belarus, Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova “important countries” for the EU.

“We have to create for them (Belarus) an alternative to Russia. To show that they can be with us,” the minister said.

He also added that in the same way it should be done with relations with Serbia.

“They can cooperate with the EU and NATO in spite of the problems arising from their difficult past,” said the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry.

Foreign ministers of Poland and Belarus held talks on October 10 in Warsaw, where issues of bilateral cooperation and international relations were discussed. The meeting was initiated by the Polish side.
