Egypt denied reports on deployment of Russian military base on its territory

According to Egyptian media Youm7, official representative of the administration of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Alaa Youssef denied information about possible deployment of Russian military bases in Egypt.

“This is not true. Egypt has a strong position, which does not allow placing of foreign military bases on its territory,” said Youssef.

Earlier, Interfax (referring to a source in the Foreign Ministry, and a source close to the Defense Ministry) reported that Russia is in talks with Egypt about renting military facilities, including military air base in the town of Sidi Barrani in the north-west of the country.

According to the source, if the sides come to an agreement, Russia can start using the base starting from 2019.
