Moscow prepared “series of measures” in the event of sanctions for Syria

The Russian Foreign Ministry prepared a list of responses to possible American sanctions against Russia because of the situation in Syria.

This was stated by deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, speaking in the Federation Council. According to him, the response to the sanctions can be “asymmetric”.

“American sanctions policy against Russia has long been going. We used this period to make some research and prepare a series of activities that can be used in asymmetric mode,” Ryabkov said.

The discussion on possible sanctions against Russia for Syria began after the aggravation of the situation in Aleppo. Last week, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she did not rule out imposing of such sanctions.

At the summit of EU leaders, held on October 21-22, the question of new sanctions against Russia has been postponed.
