NATO Secretary General: Russian troops are still present in Donbas

The Russian Federation is still present in the Donbas. This statement was made in Brussels by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, responding to a question before a meeting of the heads of the Ministries of Defense of NATO member countries.

“Russia continues to support the separatists, and its presence in the Donbas continues. For this, it has a special responsibility (the implementation of the “Minsk protocol”) … We will continue to put pressure on Russia, and to seek solutions to the Minsk agreements,” he said.

Stoltenberg stressed that the Russian side should “withdraw its troops and weapons”, and provide the work of observers in the Donbas.

At the same time, NATO Secretary General noted that it is only the political pressure he is talking about. Stoltenberg did not talk about the extent of Russia’s presence.

“Russia supports groups that are trying to influence the internal politics of different countries with the help of propaganda, but we can not respond with propaganda,” he said.

Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak said in an interview that his country has a very good chance of obtaining the status of the main ally of the United States outside NATO.
