Russian Foreign Ministry expects an official reaction from the USA after American media reported on American military hackers’ penetration into telecommunications and power systems of Russia.
“There was a message in the media about the penetration of U.S. military hackers into telecommunication and power systems of Russia, as well as into ‘Kremlin’s command systems’. We expect a reaction from the U.S. authorities, including the White House and the State Department, with legal assessment of this information,” said Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova.
“The lack of an official reaction from the U.S. administration would mean the existence of cyber-terrorism in the USA at the state level, and in case of enforcement of the threats, aired by the U.S. media, Moscow will have the full right to submit appropriate charges to Washington,” she said.
Earlier, American TV channel NBC News, citing an unnamed senior intelligence official said that “U.S. military hackers have penetrated Russia’s electric grid, telecommunications networks and the Kremlin’s command systems, making them vulnerable to attack by secret American cyber weapons should the U.S. deem it necessary.”
The material channel noted that “cyber weapons would only be deployed in the unlikely event the U.S. was attacked in a significant way.”
