The head of Russian Ministry of Health Veronika Skvortsova said that 10 regions of Russia are in a critical condition on HIV situation.
She clarified that the Sverdlovsk region holds the first place among them.
“HIV is distributed very unevenly in the country. The incidence is several times higher in the regions that are on the “drug path”. Therefore, there are 10 critical regions out of 85. Sverdlovsk Region and Yekaterinburg are at the first place,” said Skvortsova.
She said that “57% of all HIV infections are obtained from injections”, and most of all among heroin addicts.
Earlier, the Ministry of Health of Yekaterinburg has announced, and then denied the information about the HIV epidemic in the city. Doctors have registered 26,693 cases of HIV infection, accounting for 1.8% of the city population. In turn, the mayor of Yekaterinburg Yevgeny Roizman called for all Russians to check their HIV status.
