French pop star Didier Marouani and his lawer Trunov detained in Russia

The detention was associated with a claim on extortion of one million euros, filed by Russian singer Philip Kirkorov.

On November 1, the leader of pop band “Space”, Didier Marouani filed a lawsuit for the protection of copyright on the fact of plagiarism in the song “Cruel Love”, performed by Kirkorov. Marouani claimed that the song “Cruel Love” is a processing of his track “Symphonic Space Dream”.

Earlier in November, Marouani’s lawer Trunov said that Kirkorov admitted the fact of plagiarism in the song “Cruel Love”, and was willing to pay compensation of 1 million euros. Later, Kirkorov’s lawyer denied his words.

The detention was carried out in a SberBank branch.

“Marouani and Trunov were there to sign an amicable agreement with the singer Philip Kirkorov, but they have been awaited by the police,” said Trunov’s lawer Lyudmila Aivar.
