According to his website, Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny will put his candidacy for the presidential elections in Russia, which will be held in 2018.
According to Navalny, he thought a lot about whether it is worth it to take part in the presidential race.
“My thoughts were not even about how difficult it is to campaign against the current government in modern Russia, but rather whether it is useful for everyone, good for the country, the society, and the state… I came to the conclusion that yes, I will run for the presidency of Russia,” said Navalny.
According to him, he is going to the elections with a program on how “to make Russia fair and modern, to curb corruption and make Russian wealth prosperity of each family.”
“Myself, my team, and the people who support me, are ready to fight for the votes of the citizens and make sure that with our program we will make Russia richer and stronger and freer,” said the opposition leader.
According to the law, Aleksei Navalny can participate in the elections, as in November this year Russia’s Supreme Court confirmed the verdict of the European Court of Human Rights and nullified the verdict in the “Kirovles” case against him. However, the case was sent for a retrial, which is currently in the Leninsky court of Kirov.
In 2013, Aleksei Navalny ran for the mayor of Moscow. He took the second place with 27% of the votes.
