USA expands sanctions against Russia because of Ukraine

According the website of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the USA extended the list of sanctions introduced against Moscow because of the events in Ukraine and the annexation of the Crimea.

It was noted that in the extended list includes seven individuals (Mikhail Dedov, Mikhail Klishin, Kirill Kovalchuk, Dmitry Lebedev, Dmitry Mansurov, Oleg Minaev, and Yevgeny Prigogine), and several dozen organizations. It also includes two tankers under the Russian flag: “Marshal Zhukov” and “Stalingrad”.

There have also been worked out sanctions against the company Novatek, which is already under restrictions from Washington (the document lists all of its 26 subsidiaries).

“The purpose of the introduction of these sanctions is to maintain pressure on Russia,” said the head of the Department of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Treasury, John Smith, adding that the sanctions list was extended in connection with the situation around Ukraine and the Crimea.

Earlier, the European Union has extended economic sanctions against Russia until July 31, 2017.
