Russia was deprived of biathlon 2017 World Cup event in Tyumen


A stage of the Biathlon World Cup in Tyumen was canceled. This was a decision of the executive committee of the International Biathlon Union, which became known on Thursday evening.

At the moment, it is unknown where it was moved, this decision will be made later. The competitions were supposed to be held in Tyumen in March 2017.

Russian Biathlon Union has notified the International Biathlon Union about the decision to cancel the stage of the Biathlon World Cup, and Youth/Junior World Championship in Ostrov of the Pskov region.

On December 22, a meeting of the executive committee of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) was held in Munich, dedicated to the problem of doping in Russian sport. Independent commission of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) headed by Richard McLaren provided IBU with information about 31 Russian biathletes, who are suspected of violating anti-doping rules.

A group of five experts delivered a report to the IBU Executive Committee and proposed disciplinary measures in accordance with the anti-doping rules. Among these measures is deprivation of the right to receive prestigious competitions for countries whose athletes were suspected of violating these rules.
