Heavy aircraft carrying cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov and heavy nuclear missile cruiser Peter the Great will complete their mission at the shores of Syria and will go to Russia in January.
This was reported by Interfax referring to an unnamed source.
The exact dates of the departure and the arrival to the destination port in Severomorsk were not specified.
“It is expected that in January Admiral Kuznetsov and Peter the Great will complete their long-range campaign and go to their home shores,” a spokesman said.
Earlier, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that Russian deployment in Syria may be reduced in connection with the truce that started on December 30.
The air wing of Admiral Kuznetsov have been taking part in the operations of Russian Air Force in Syria since November 15, 2016.
During the operation, the cruiser lost two fighters: MiG-29 and Su-33 crashed during landing, both pilots ejected safely.
