As reported by Yonhap referring to its own sources, American commandos will join the operation to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, planned by South Korea in the event of war on the peninsula.
The headcount of the squad that is planned to be formed later this year will be 1000-2000 people under the command of South Korea. It is noted that in addition to the assassination of Kim Jong Un the squad will also neutralize the top political and military leadership of North Korea.
Also, Seoul and Washington intend to increase the number of joint exercises in 2017.
The plans of South Korea to create a special unit for destroying command centers and eliminating of the DPRK leadership were first reported back in October of 2016. However, at that time there was no information that the United States might join the operation.
On January 8 this year former North Korean diplomat Tae Yong Ho, who fled to South Korea, said that North Korea plans to complete the development of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) by the end of 2017 or beginning of 2018. According to him, the new missile will be able to reach the U.S. mainland.
