Russian astronauts can’t spacewalk due to lost space suit

The only spacewalk of Russian astronauts scheduled for 2017 might not take place due to the loss of a new Orlan MKS space suit, which was in the cargo on the crashed Progress spacecraft.

According to the head of Roscosmos department for manned programs Sergei Krikalev, the spacewalk is still scheduled, but initially it was planned with testing of the new Orlan MKS space suits, and one of them was lost during the accident.

Due to the destruction of the equipment, the spacewalk program will be reviewed.

Krikalev said that there is no urgent need to have a spacewalk this year, but the plans will be entirely clear after the new suits are delivered.
