On Wednesday, January 25, the General Court of the European Union ruled that the documents presented by the EU Council prove that Russia supplied weapons to separatists in Eastern Ukraine.
The decision was made during proceedings for the case of the Russian company Almaz-Antey.
The published press release of the Court states that the documents provided by the Council demonstrate that “Russia actually supplied weapons to the separatists in Eastern Ukraine.”
In addition, the Court confirmed the legality of freezing funds of Almaz-Antey in the EU.
Earlier, Almaz-Antey filed a lawsuit to challenge the sanctions imposed by the EU against the company in 2014. The current decision was made regarding the first out of two suits of the company, which challenges the individual sanctions imposed on the enterprise. The second lawsuit was about sectoral sanctions that also affect Almaz-Antey.
