Journalist of Russia Today faces felony riot charges in USA


Reporter of Russia Today TV channel Alexander Rubinstein detained in Washington during protests at the day of the inauguration of president Donald Trump. He faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $25,000.

Washington police detained Rubinstein even though he showed his press credentials. As it is stated on the website of Superior Court of the District of Columbia, Rubinstein is charged with second-degree felony (participation in rioting). A preliminary hearing will take place on February 16.

Press service of RT confirmed that a case of involvement in riots was filed against Rubinstein. Currently he is not in the custody.

The chief editor of RT Margarita Simonyan stressed that RT refrains from any comments at the request of lawyers.
