Groundhog Frol died in St. Petersburg zoo on Groundhog Day

Famous groundhog Frol who forecasted the coming of spring for several years died in St. Peterburg zoo on Groundhog Day.

All the celebrations at the zoo were canceled since there are no other groundhogs in the zoo, and there was no time to find a replacement.

Meanwhile, in Moscow it was reported that the groundhog in the capital zoo did not wake up, so it was unable to predict the arrival of spring.

Groundhog Day is a traditional American holiday, which is celebrated on February 2. According to the legend, the animal predicts the duration of winter. If the groundhog comes out of its hole on a sunny day and sees its own shadow, the winter will continue for 6 more weeks. If the animal does not see his shadow (that is, the day is overcast) then the spring will come early.
