Sanctions against Russia should remain until the Crimea returns to Ukraine. This was stated by the U.S. permanent representative to the UN Nikki Haley during her first appearance in her position at the UN Security Council.
“Crimea is part of Ukraine,” she said. “Our Crimea-related sanctions will remain in place until Russia returns control over the peninsula to Ukraine.”
“We want to improve relations with Russia,” said Haley, accusing Moscow of aggression, occupation, and military intervention. According to her, the situation in Ukraine “requires condemnation of Russia’s actions.”
“The escalation of violence (in Ukraine) should stop,” said the new US representative to the UN, saying that Washington supports the Ukrainian people and the Minsk agreements. According to Haley, as long as Russia and the separatist republics of Donbas “do not respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine”, the crisis in the country “will continue.”
