Russian boxer Povetkin excluded from WBC rankings because of doping


Russian heavyweight boxer Alexander Povetkin, who was caught on the use of banned substances, was excluded from the rankings of the World Boxing Council (WBC).

“At the moment, he is excluded from the rankings. The decision on the case will come down in a week,” said the WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman.

On December 17th Povetkin was supposed to meet Canadian Bermane Stiverne, but at the day of the fight it become known that the doping sample of the Russian boxer from December 6th returned positive. The B sample that was opened the day before has confirmed the presence of ostarine.
