Russian passenger arrested in Egypt for attempt to bring bomb to airplane


In Egyptian airport of Alexandria a Russian citizen was arrested who tried to smuggle improvised explosive device (IED) to a plane heading for Istanbul, Turkey.

It was reported by Egypt Independent with reference to the airport security service.

The name of the passenger was not disclosed. The Consulate General of Russia said that the Russian was not in possession of explosives. According to TASS, he was arrested after a can of carbonated beverage, some wires and electronic chips were found in his suitcase.

In November 2015 air traffic between Russia and Egypt was stopped. The decision was made after the terrorist attack on board of an airplane Airbus A321 of Russian air carrier Kogalymavia, flying from Sharm El Sheikh to St. Petersburg.
