Canada will extend the mission of its military instructors in Ukraine


Canadian Defense Ministers Harjit Sajjan and Foreign Minister Christina Freeland decided to continue the Canadian Armed Forces’ training mission in Ukraine for another two years until the end of March 2019.

This was announced by the Government of Canada.

It was noted that thanks to this UNIFIER Operation program the Canadian Armed Forces provide military training and assistance in developing the capabilities of the Ukraine’s army and helping it in its efforts to preserve the country’s sovereignty, security and stability.

The Canadian military will continue to support the professional development and enhance the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces through a range of training activities such as small team training, explosives disposal, military policing, medical training, logistic system modernization.

In addition, the Canadian Armed Forces will also support the implementation of strategic institutional reform of Ukraine‘s defense establishment.

“Operation UNIFIER supports broader Government of Canada efforts to advance democracy, human rights and the rule of law in Ukraine through development, financial, humanitarian, and non-lethal military assistance,” said in the message of the Government of Canada.
