Former Russian MP Voronenkov who fled to Ukraine was killed in Kiev


As reported by Vesti Ukraina, Denis Voronenkov was killed near Premier Palace hotel in Kiev downtown. Chief of Kiev police Andrei Krischenko says it was an assassination.

Ukrainskaya Pravda (Ukrainian Truth – RRT) reports that as a result of shooting that took place in the center of Kiev at least one person died, but does not specify the names. According to unconfirmed reports, one person was killed and another was injured. According to Krishchenko, Voronenkov’s guard wounded the killer, but was also wounded by him.

Former State Duma (the lower chamber of Russian parliament – RRT) deputy Ilya Ponomaryov wrote on his Facebook page that Denis Voronenkov was going to a meeting with him. According to Ponomaryov, the murder happened at 11:25 local time.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko summoned the head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasily Hrytsak.

Denis Voronenkov was a State Duma deputy until 2016. He fled to Ukraine before the expiration of his term, where he testified on the case of the high treason of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. He also received Ukrainian citizenship.
