A major of the Russian Marine Corps Sergei Bordov, originating from Sevastopol (Crimea), was killed in Syria.
This was reported by Reuters with reference to Vyacheslav Pavlyuchenko, a former colleague of Bordov, and to a source in the Black Sea Fleet of Russia. According to Pavlyuchenko, on April 18th Bordov got under artillery fire, along with him another Russian and two Syrian soldiers were killed. The body of the major is going to be delivered to his place of service, Sevastopol, annexed by Russia, on April 21st.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, since the beginning of the operation in Syria in September 2015 about 30 Russian servicemen have been killed.
According to the materials collected by Reuters, the losses of the Russian side, including the mercenaries of private military companies, are much higher.
