Chief editor of newspaper that investigated corruption was killed in Krasnoyarsk Krai


The chief editor of the local newspaper Ton-M Dmitriy Popkov was killed in the city of Minusinsk of the Krasnoyarsk Krai. His body with gunshot wounds was found in a sauna building in the courtyard of a private house.

According to one of the versions of the regional department of the investigative committee, the reason for the murder could be his professional activity. A criminal case was initiated under Article 105 of the Criminal Code (Murder). There were 5 gun wounds found in the body of the journalist.

The motto of newspaper Ton-M is “We write what others are silent about.”

“Our newspaper has long been a thorn in many officials’ side, and they tried to shut us down in every possible way. Nobody succeeded so far, including the public prosecutor, who is ‘beloved’ so much by the townspeople. We don’t give a damn for telephone threats, intimidation by searches and interrogations,” Popkov wrote in Ton-M in 2016.
