Russia will give military response to THAAD deployment in South Korea

According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, the deployment of the U.S. missile defense system THAAD near Russian borders may raise the question of Moscow’s military response.

“If all this happens at such alarming rates, at some point it is inevitable that, perhaps, the question about our reaction in the military way will arise, in order to create some kind of a counter-weight. I do not want to anticipate anything, but one can not perceive certain things out of the context,” Ryabkov told journalists, commenting on the matter of THAAD deployment in South Korea.

The diplomat recalled that Moscow has always been negative regarding these plans.

“THAAD can easily be incorporated into the missile defense system of a greater range, a greater power if you want. And all this becomes elements of an integrated U.S. missile defense system,” Ryabkov said.

As it was reported earlier, South Korea decided to deploy three additional installations of the U.S. missile defense system THAAD on their territory in connection with the new launch of the intercontinental ballistic missile by North Korea.
