142 countries backed UN reformation suggested by USA


According to Interfax, a high-level meeting on UN reform took place on September 18th in New York. The meeting was attended by U.S. President Donald Trump.

142 countries, including the USA, Germany, Canada, Japan, etc., expressed support for this reform. Participants suggested that the head of the UN António Guterres should be in charge of this process.

Among the initiatives proposed in the reform, there is a proposal to reduce the staff of the UN, as well as its main bodies.

About 70 countries did not support the initiative, including Russia, China and France. The head of the State Duma committee on international affairs Leonid Slutsky explained that at the moment the Russian Federation is not ready to support the process of reforming the organization.

Previously it was reported that almost 130 countries signed the declaration on UN reformation.

The discussion of the initiative was held within the framework of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly.
