Brigade commander of Russian marine corps mortally wounded in Syria


Colonel Valery Fedyanin, who was the commander of the 61st separate Kirkenes Marine Corps brigade of the Russian Northern Fleet, died In Moscow in the Burdenko hospital on September 30th.

This was reported by his colleagues in social network Vkontakte.

Colonel Valery Fedyanin took part in the operation of the Russian Armed Forces in Syria. On September 25th the headquarters of the Syrian army, where he was together with Lieutenant-General Valery Asapov, got under mortar fire. The commander of the group of military advisers Asapov died a the scene, while Fedyanin received a serious wound, and was evacuated to Moscow.

However, all the efforts of the doctors to save the life of the brigade commander proved to be in vain. He passed away without regaining consciousness.

According to his colleagues, Colonel Valery Fedyanin will be buried at the Federal Military Memorial Cemetery in Mytishchi, Moscow. The funeral ceremony will be held on Tuesday, October 3rd. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has not yet announced the death of its officer.
